With over 1 billion monthly active users, Instagram belongs to the most popular social networks worldwide. So if you run a business, it is even more important than ever to establish your brand and build an Instagram feed that converts. I have put together 3 really simple tips of how you can start to improve your reach, engagement and build a follower count that converts.
#Hashtags. Think of the instagram algorithm like a point system, it looks at your post and scores it points by every action thats taken. So like shares, saves, follows, profile views and the length of time somebody spends reading your caption! The more points you have the more people will see your post. And, the more instagram is going to organically push your content to the top of everyone’s feeds. It will also start to push your content toward people that didn’t even know that you exist! Helping even more people discover your account. You can use up to 30 hashtags in one post, but this can look quite spammy so I recommend around 15 max. Did you know you can add up to 11 hashtags within your stories? That’s right, but you don’t want your story to look too spammy. I have a secret way of hiding them 🙌🏻 -Add your image/video - Type your hashtag - Now select the the picker tool, bottom left and move it to the background of where your hashtag is situated, this will turn it the same colour as your background and turn it invisible 😁 I recommend making your text as small as possible too.
Alt Text. You now have the option of adding "alternative texts" to your Instagram posts, which are basically used to describe what's seen on your photo. There are a few reasons why you should be using this feature - the main one being that it helps the Instagram algorithm understand what is on your photo. Instagram uses an image recognition technology to understand what your photo contains, which ultimately determines who your post is shown to, this will be people who like your kind of content. ALT text makes it easier for the algorithm to understand what your photo is about, and means it’ll be shown to more people who actually care about the kind of content you're sharing. Higher engagement and higher reach! You'll find it in your advanced settings at the bottom of your editing options when you go to post.
Use REAL Photos of REAL People. Who Work within your business. You can add a mix of authentic and stock photos, but purely stock, just won't cut it. If you’re an awful photographer, but don’t have the budget to hire one, then recruit someone internally. I’m currently using my husband 😂 Chances are there is someone at your company who has at least mastered the art of iPhone photography. Show off your employees on various parts of your site, like your About Us and Careers pages. Even showing off your employees throughout content and on your homepage is a viable strategy. Make it clear who writes each piece of content, and include an image of the author. Share outings, events, or even just funny moments in the office. Create an Instagram hashtag where you show off day-to-day office moments. The possibilities to model your fine-looking employees to the public are endless.
